William A. Spencer has worked in Executive Benefits and Bank Owned Life Insurance markets for over ten years. In that time he has worked with over 40 New England community banks in developing and designing non-qualified plans. With more than 35 years of experience in the financial services industry, Mr. Spencer has held senior marketing and product development positions with several life insurance companies.

As a partner with BFS Group, Mr. Spencer specializes in designing and implementing nonqualified benefit plans for officers and directors of financial institutions. He works with banks to develop an understanding of current and long-term needs; provides an analysis of existing compensation and benefit practices; and then prepares recommendations that address impact on cash flows, earnings, shareholder value, and other bank objectives to facilitate board approval. Mr. Spencer also works with bank accountants, attorneys and consultants to provide a coordinated financial strategy that minimizes the impact of plan costs on earnings.

Mr. Spencer received his bachelor’s degree from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. He also earned the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) professional designations from The American College, Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. In addition, Mr. Spencer is a past president of the New Hampshire Chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals. Mr. Spencer volunteers as a speaker throughout New Hampshire for JumpStart, a national program to teach financial literacy to high school students. He also serves as Chairman on the New Hampshire Continuing Education Advisory Council of the New Hampshire Insurance Department, the Graduate School of Business’ Advisory Board for Southern New Hampshire University and the Board of Directors for the Harris Plaisted Regional CLU & ChFC Educational Conference held annually at the University of New Hampshire.
